6 hours Year 9 Support Summer Term Unit 14 Measures and mensuration

NNS P228 - 233
P238 - 241

Autumn Term

Spring Term Summer Term

Support (from Y7 teaching programme)

• Calculate the surface area of cubes and cuboids

Convert one metric unit to another (e.g. grams to kilograms); read and interpret scales on a range of measuring instruments.

Core (from Y8 teaching programme)

• Use bearings to specify direction
Know and use the formula for the volume of a cuboid; calculate volumes and surface areas of cuboids and shapes made from cuboids .

• Use units of measurement to estimate, calculate and solve problems in everyday contexts involving capacity, mass, time; know rough metric equivalents of imperial measures in daily use (pounds, pints, gallons).

Extension (from Y9 teaching programme)

• Calculate the surface area and volume of right prisms

• Convert between area measures (mm 2 to cm 2 , cm 2 to m 2 , and vice versa) and between volume measures (mm 3 to cm 3 , cm 3 to m 3 , and vice versa)
