This page explains when we refund a MathedUp subscription, how to ask, and how long it takes. It forms part of our terms of service.
The guarantee
Use it with your classes for a half term. If it has not saved you time by the end of it, email us and we will refund you in full.
No form. No conversation about why. We would rather have the feedback than the money.
We mean the “use it” part. Set the papers, run the toolkits, plan a unit with it. The guarantee is there so you can find out whether it works in your department, not so you can hold a subscription open in case it might.
How long you actually have
You have until the end of your first half term of teaching with it.
We count from the start of your school term, not from the day you paid. If you subscribe during the holidays, the clock starts when your term does. A refund window that expires in August, while you are still waiting to teach the topic you bought it for, would be worth nothing — which is exactly why we do not do “14 days from purchase”.
In practice that is at least six teaching weeks and usually more. If you are not sure whether you are still in time, you are. Just email.
How to ask
Email hello@mathedup.co.uk and say you would like the refund. That is the whole process. You do not need to give a reason, fill anything in, or speak to anyone about retention offers.
If you do want to tell us what did not work, we will read it properly and it will change what gets built. But it is not a condition of anything.
What you get back
The full amount you paid for the current subscription period. Not a pro-rata share of it, and not minus a charge for the weeks you used — the whole thing.
How the money comes back
- Paid by card: back to the same card. Usually within five working days, and always within fourteen days of us agreeing the refund.
- Paid by invoice: by bank transfer to the school, within fourteen days. If you would rather have a credit note, say so and you can have one instead.
- Invoiced but not yet paid: we cancel the invoice. There is nothing to refund and nothing for your finance office to chase.
What happens to your access
Subscriber access ends when the refund is made — the topic toolkits, the curriculum planner and the other subscriber materials.
Everything else stays exactly as it was. Your account, your classes, your students’ accounts, their progress and their RAG self-evaluations are untouched, and the free student service continues as normal. Your students do not lose anything they would have had anyway, because everything a student needs to learn and revise on MathedUp is free regardless of whether anyone subscribes.
After the guarantee period
You can cancel at any time, which stops the next renewal. As a rule we do not refund part-way through a period you have already paid for — you keep the access until it runs out.
There are two situations where we will refund the unused part of your subscription, pro rata:
- If we permanently withdraw something significant that you are paying for and cannot offer you an equivalent.
- If we change our terms in a way that materially reduces what you are paying for.
And if something is faulty, not as described, or simply is not working for you outside the guarantee window, email us anyway. A policy is a floor, not a ceiling, and we have no interest in holding money from a school that is not getting anything for it.
Renewals
MathedUp Pro renews automatically every twelve months unless you cancel. We email you before it renews, so a renewal should never be a surprise on a statement. Cancel any time before that date and you will not be charged.
MathedUp for Schools never charges automatically. Renewal is a fresh invoice that your school chooses to accept, so a department cannot be signed up for another year by inertia.
If a renewal does catch you out — you meant to cancel, the person who bought it has left, the budget went — tell us and we will refund it. That is not a grudging exception; an automatic payment nobody intended is not money we want.
Payments made by mistake
Duplicate payments, the wrong plan, a school charged twice because two people bought it: refunded in full, whenever you spot it. No window applies to our own mistakes, or to yours.
Your legal rights
Nothing on this page reduces your rights under the law.
If you are an individual buying for yourself rather than through a school, you are a consumer, and you have a statutory right to cancel a contract made online within fourteen days. You also have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if digital content is faulty or not as described. Our guarantee is longer and simpler than the statutory cancellation right, so in practice it is the one you would use — but the legal right is there and this page does not remove it.
Schools and other organisations buying in the course of business do not have that statutory cancellation right. The guarantee above is what applies, and it is a contractual commitment we are held to.
Live events and 1-to-1 tutoring
These are separate services and this page does not cover them.
Booking and payment for live events are not open through this site yet. When they are, the cancellation terms will be shown at the point of booking, before you pay. Our free events cost nothing to cancel — just tell us, so someone else can have the place. Tutoring arrangements are agreed individually, and the terms come with them.
Contact
Every refund request goes to hello@mathedup.co.uk, which reaches Mo — the person who built the thing you are asking for a refund on. There is no support desk to be routed through.
